Winter News from Lydney

I have recently contacted the MP and Leader of the County Council asking for their support towards the formation of a multi-agency flood assessment group with the mandate to minutely scrutinize every existing/outstanding/future (over 5 units) Planning Application that concerns Lydney and the immediate surrounding area specifically on water run-ff. Once again concerns around the Lakeside Area abound and at the bottom of Highfield Hill an increase in standing water has been obviously apparent. With the amount of existing and speculative Planning Applications that surround particularly the Northern and Eastern areas of our Town I am not convinced that appropriate due regard has/is being taken with regard to potential flood risk, and certainly continued development on the green-belt can only intensify the situation. I would hope to see that this group compliments the excellent existing Lydney Flood Defence Group that is brokered by my colleagues on Lydney Town Council.

On a more positive note the 1 million pound plus SECURED funding for Lydney for Transport Improvements promises to deliver constructively (literally) solutions in the New Year.
In addition long overdue road-surfacing from Forest Road and through Newerne Street will take place at some point over the coming months – I do not apologise for any short-term inconvenience that this may cause !!!
Finally I have been delighted to have been part of the process that has delivered much needed grant funding to many of our town’s Sports Clubs and Leisure providers through the County Council’s Active Together Scheme.
Rest assured I will continue to fight for OUR Town.
